The best way to appreciate the attraction of Judo is to engage with Judo. This is easily done by watching live Judo bouts, or by reading about Judo, etc.
Attending Judo bouts
Judo competitions are held in many locations. These range from local city and school competitions to international competitions where professional-level practitioners compete. Witnessing a live bout is the best way to appreciate the speed and power of Judo, and to see in detail how the waza (techniques) are employed. Even those whose acquaintance with Judo is slight will appreciate the rapid footwork and the way the waza transitions unfold right before their eyes.
These pleasures can be easily experienced at any Judo competition, not just at the all-Japan and international competitions.
Meet the contestants
Although the opportunities for meeting top Judo contestants are limited, the All Japan Judo Federation sponsors "Judo Festivals" in various parts of Japan as part of their Judo promotion activities. Such festivals provide a chance to hear various waza explained by All-Japan team coaches and by the national team members.
Read about Judo
A wealth of Judo-related books and manga are available, and they provide a good way to get a feel for the sport through the emotions of their protagonists, etc. These books may also offer readers a look at Judo from new and fresh viewpoints.
