Regulations regarding junior age groups
Junior Judo Rules are the Judo judging rules used for primary school and junior high school students. Junior Judo teaches respect for the opponent, focusing not on winning and losing, but on fostering a dauntless spirit which can face even larger and stronger opponents without trepidation.
With this in mind, junior Judo rules prohibit and penalize the following actions: intentionally moving outside the contest area, failure to properly engage the opponent, failure to attack with vigor.
Furthermore, because junior contests often have no weight divisions, being divided rather by school year, certain Waza which are deemed safety hazards are prohibited.
