Kodokan rules

The official name of the Kodokan rules is the "Kodokan Judo Competition Judging Rules".
The current Kodokan rules are based on the original Kodokan Judo Competition Judging Rules. These rules continue to be revised, and are used primarily in contests held within Japan. Historically, the Kodokan rules were used at the 1st to 4th World Championships held in the years 1956~1965, as well as at the Tokyo Olympiad in 1964. The junior division rules (designed for the safety of primary school and junior high school students whose bodies are still developing) also conform to the Kodokan rules, and are used at all junior division competitions held in Japan.
In 1967, the International Judo Federation Competition Judging Rules (IJF rules) were implemented, and these rules are now used in international competitions, as well as in some competitions held in Japan.
