Glossary of Judo terminology
The term "Doping" refers to the use of chemical substances, etc., to illicitly enhance one's performance. The word "Doping' has its origins in the word "Doop" used by the Kaffir tribe of South Africa with reference to an alcoholic beverage used to stimulate the senses during rituals. The use of chemical substances to enhance one's performance violates the code of sportsmanship, and is therefore prohibited in the sports world.
The All Japan Judo Federation also prohibits doping, based on the International Judo Federation's doping regulations and the Nippon Doping Prevention Regulations. The prohibited chemical substances include certain powerful cold medications, and antipyretics.
