Ouchi-gaeshi (Large inner reaping throw counter)
Summary
This is a counter Waza used against the Ouchi-gari (Large inner reap) Waza.
Features of this Waza
The Ouchi-gaeshi (Large inner reaping throw counter) is used a counter against the Ouchi-gari (Large inner reap)when that Waza fails to destabilize the defender, and when it failed to bring the combatants into a chest-to-chest stance.
Waza details
When Uke (Player receiving opponent's attack) attacks with an Ouchi-gari (Large inner reap), Tori (Player executing technique) twists his body in the direction of Uke (Player receiving opponent's attack) reaping foot to disperse the force of the Waza to the outside.
The failed Waza attempt leaves Uke (Player receiving opponent's attack) destabilized, and Tori (Player executing technique) chooses that moment to sweep Uke (Player receiving opponent's attack) reaping leg.
Uke (Player receiving opponent's attack) leg can be swept more smoothly by sweeping it in the direction of his reaping foot toes.
While sweeping Uke (Player receiving opponent's attack) leg, Tori (Player executing technique) also twists his body and pulls Uke (Player receiving opponent's attack) in the backward direction with his Hiki-te (Pulling hand), and pushes in that same direction with his Tsurite (Lifting hand) to enhance the dynamism of the throw.
The Ouchi-gaeshi (Large inner reaping throw counter) is frequently used in competitions.
Waza usage tip
- The Ouchi-gaeshi (Large inner reaping throw counter) can be executed when the opponent attempts Ouchi-gari (Large inner reap) with an insufficient pushing force from his right hand.
